The Fire of God’s Love
Julie Andrews plays the role of a governess to seven von Trapp children in the classic film version of the The Sound of Music. One stormy night, she banishes all traces of the children’s fears with the lilting song, “My Favorite Things.” Six times, she repeats the phrase, “these are a few of my favorite things.”
“Favorites” is a new category on my blog, where I’ll be sharing some of my favorite books, scriptures, songs, and more! The first to make its debut is a book.
Bob Sorge’s, The Fire of God’s Love, is definitely my “go-to” for encouragement, insight, and the challenge to continue the quest for more of God. My favorite part is found in Section Four: Friendship with God, which contains eight chapters. Here is a snippet, just to snag your interest:
- “There are many ‘believers,’ but not as many ‘servants.’ And there are fewer still ‘friends’ of God.” (See page 96.)
So what is the difference between being a believer, a servant, a friend? And, where do we find ourselves on this relational journey? Reading Sorge’s section on being a friend of God’s will help you to chart your course and pursue more.
Other book sections include: Furnace of Love, The Cross, Motivations of the Heart, The Song of Solomon, and The Greatest is Love. The Fire of God’s Love is published by Oasis House Ministries and is available at oasishouse.com. Enjoy!
