Need a Little Whimsy?
Start the year out right with a little whimsy from New York Times Bestseller, Bob Goff. The subtitle of his first book, Love Does, entices the reader to “Discover a Secretly Incredible Life in an Ordinary World.”
As I read the first, then the second chapter of this strikingly different book, somehow, Bob’s world didn’t seem so ordinary to me. He caught my attention by the way he lives, thinks, and acts on any given situation.
Love Does, contains 31 chapters or slices from his life – before and after he was married, and after he had children. The book can easily become a month-long devotional, infusing your day with smiling blue skies in an otherwise, grey
- “The Reach,” where Bob says, “The thing I love about God is He intentionally guides people into failure (p.29).” What? How is that whimsical? Believe me, he leads up to this bold statement after you’ve just witnessed a hilarious scene.
- In “Go Buy Your Books,” Bob demonstrates bulldog determination and an outrageous faith in a daring, yet by most standards an impossible achievement.
- Through “Jeepology,” Bob teaches us what it means to be “hit by Jesus,” by being “thrown from our lives in a terrific collision (p.125).”
- Then there are the “Ten-Year-Old Adventures” Bob takes with each of his children. What an inspiration for leaving a legacy of far-fetched, unforgettable memories.
Let’s face it. I could go on and on, but it wouldn’t change your outlook,
