Hope of His Calling

Women have a natural inclination to nurture. God made us this way. We nurture dolls and stuffed animals, children, grandchildren, siblings, friends, students, coworkers, and husbands. So it’s not uncommon for a wife to wonder, “What is the best way for me to pray for my husband?” Praying, after all, is a form of nurturing.

This blog is the first in a series of “model prayers to pray for your husband.” Holy Spirit came up with the idea. He’s good that way. While I’m reading the Bible, He suddenly spotlights a scripture that would be ideal to pray for my husband. His prayers are so much better than mine!

You’ll notice bold areas set off by brackets. That’s where you can insert your husband’s name, making it personal.

A prayer adapted from Ephesians 1:16-19 TPT

My heart is always full and overflowing with thanks to You, God, for my husband as I constantly remember him in my prayers. Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, impart to [insert your husband’s name] the riches of the Spirit of wisdom and the Spirit of revelation to know You, through his deepening intimacy with You.

I pray that the light of You, God, will illuminate the eyes of his imagination, flooding him with light, until he experiences the full revelation of the hope of his calling—that is, the wealth of Your glorious inheritance that You find in him, one of Your holy ones!

I pray that [insert your husband’s name] will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of Your power made available to him through faith. Then his life will be an advertisement of Your immense power as it works through him!

I really like how this passage reads in The Passion Translation. When I first read it and thought about my husband, the phrase that popped out to me was, “the hope of his calling.” It’s my desire to see my husband step into all that God’s intended him to become, to fulfill the very reason why he was created. This is the best possible way I can nurture him, through prayer.
